Bilinear Forms for the Recovery-Based Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Diffusion

چکیده
Abstract. The present paper introduces bilinear forms that are equivalent to the recovery-based discontinuous Galerkin formulation introduced by Van Leer in 2005. The recovery method approximates the solution of the diffusion equation in a discontinuous function space, while inter-element coupling is achieved by a local L2 projection that recovers a smooth continuous function underlying the discontinuous approximation. Here we introduce the concept of a local “recovery polynomial basis” – smooth polynomials that are in the weak sense indistinguishable from the discontinuous basis polynomials – and show it allows us to eliminate the recovery procedure. The recovery method reproduces the symmetric discontinuous Galerkin formulation with additional penalty-like terms depending on the targeted accuracy of the method. We present the unique link between the recovery method and discontinuous Galerkin bilinear forms. AMS subject classifications: 35K05, 65M60

CFL Condition and Boundary Conditions for DGM Approximation of Convection-Diffusion
Abstract. We propose a general method for the design of Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for non stationary linear equations. The method is based on a particular splitting of the bilinear forms that appear in the weak Discontinuous Galerkin Method. We prove that an appropriate time splitting gives a stable scheme whatever the order of the polynomial approximation . Various problems can be address...

In this article, we prove some weighted pointwise estimates for three discontinuous Galerkin methods with lifting operators appearing in their corresponding bilinear forms. We consider a Dirichlet problem with a general second order elliptic operator.
متن کاملA Three-Dimensional Recovery-Based Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Turbulence Simulations
Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods have recently received much attention because of their portability to complex geometries, scalability in parallel architectures and relatively simple extension to high order. However, their implementation for compressible turbulence problems is not straightforward, e.g., due to parameter-free limiting for orders greater than first and the lack of a consistent...
متن کاملA Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Diffusion Based on Recovery
We present the details of the recovery-based DG method for 2-D diffusion problems on unstructured grids. In the recovery approach the diffusive fluxes are based on a smooth, locally recovered solution that in the weak sense is indistinguishable from the discontinuous discrete solution. This eliminates the introduction of ad hoc penalty or coupling terms found in traditional DG methods. Crucial ...
متن کاملAn overlapping domain decomposition preconditioner for a class of discontinuous Galerkin approximations of advection-diffusion problems
We consider a scalar advection{di usion problem and a recently proposed discontinuous Galerkin approximation, which employs discontinuous nite element spaces and suitable bilinear forms containing interface terms that ensure consistency. For the corresponding sparse, nonsymmetric linear system, we propose and study an additive, two{level overlapping Schwarz preconditioner, consisting of a coars...
